What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Camden’s Concert is a fundraiser for thousands of kids like Camden as well as adults that suffer with Cystic Fibrosis.

CF is an inherited chronic life-limiting disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

Progress Thus Far:
In the 1950s, the average life expectancy for kids with CF was only three years. Today, advances in both research and medical treatments have not only dramatically enhanced quality of life of CF patients but also increased the average life expectancy to over 37 years. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

The future:
All of the advances in quality of life and life expectancy thus far have come about because researchers have found ways to treat the symptoms of CF. Currently, there is a drug that is being fast tracked through the FDA that is the first of its kind to address the underlying issue, rather than the symptoms. These advances are the direct result of fundraisers like Camden’s Concert. There is still no cure for CF but scientists are coming closer every day. Your generous donation means we may someday soon see a cure and Cam and others living with CF can have a long healthy life.
